Les Enphant Monday

James didn't have chance talking to me in Shanghai on the week of Aug. 22, neither do I, when returned last week, send him a text message in regard to the appointment, so, he set the meeting on Monday, this is how I see his management style , or I saw his change in managing things:
Irene is the head of HR - A director in Les Enphant , James begin with a greeting, how's thing going last time in Shanghai, I can sense he is in a hurry, so, without further explain, I share what Irene and I go over when we met the first time 3 weeks ago, I did most of the part, such as : Executive Team Building and Coaching service I am offering, and rephrase what Irene response, the recreation of the conversation without mood or face is difficult , this is a good practice for communication, as I did on last weekend for New Wide. then I address a few changes such as done some for CKC and the New Wide project : Introduce myself with a " Communication " Speech / workshop and follow with 2 custom made project : Target Selection and Team Building. for this part, Irene is not happy with, because I change or customize customer need - this is what she didn't know before or the main reason why she shut down the door.James is quick in making decision - whether a decision to kick the ball or to do me a favor, he instructed Irene to set up my " Communication Workshop " on Oct. 21 at Chung Ming Island - Shanghai, Irene is kind of reluctant to follow and say something about " Spencer might have his own idea ", James kick the ball back and insist to do it at once. James then return to his board meeting, Irene accompany me down the elevator and leave the message : I will check with Spencer whether the topic - communication suit there need .. yes, even James agree and insist, there are land mill still to be clear. for this, I don't see Les Enphant a big customer but a boutique customer to be list on my customer list - to leverage in some way.
James renovated his office - modernizer and sack of wine wooden case put aside , I can see he is enjoy life and spend less time with the business, I don't know, but for a professional this is not a good sign.
Gary Wang called me up before my meeting with James, asked if I am interested to take the COO position at A-1 multi-media chain? this is a DVD rental and I knew the owner long time ago, well, I am not saying No, but to take time to think, it worth chatting but not to take the position, COO is what?
Lunch with Luis and Kevin for the Himalaya Foundation follow up - I met Kevin 30 minutes before Luis show up and learn a new things : Kevin want to secure his future first, got a teaching job and at the same time take the foundation's executive role, as for the portion of each, depend on the real scenario once we conduct the fund raising, Kevin even asked what not ME to take the Chairman's role? I reply to him that I am not in the position of raising fund and not able to show people how great I am , I am not there yet. Kevin need to follow a few administrative things and I need to do it together as well.
Vicky's second talk at Howard Plaza cafe' is a good one, at least I unveil the mask of what elite PR really need and what's on Vicky's agenda, to be very frank with Vicky, I told her that since she is here with me, the importance of matter escalate, but as the coaching or public speaker market is not what in her job description, once return to Shanghai, this will be easily scale down or even fade away, probably, she should think what's real product or solution they can deliver for their customer in China. such as :
1. An inspiration day - motivation day set up for the company
2. put me on some periodical for commentator and position as KOL - Key opinion Leader
3. Higher up the pitch to the owner of business and introduce me.
so, it's a very long way to go.
I almost forget this appointment and said to Meiling the the first appointment is at Howard Plaza Hotel, so, I don't need to go anywhere before 11 am. thanks God I recall it when brush my teeth .
Sunday night is the EMBA 10th anniversary , almost 100 of graduate get together for a drink, yes, the food is bad, the place is bad and the admi fee is high : 2000. met a few long lost classmate such as : Ko Wen Ching now work at Chairman's office as Chief Audit Officer, M. Ko from MOEA who didn't contact us most , now we know the reason, he lost her life a few years ago, since graduate, his wife suffer from cancer and Ko have to accompany with her on the terminal stage. Ben Chiang who is keen in the C-Next - documentary festival development , we have a good talk and he share with me that he divorce with his wife 3 years ago - due to his nature of work and travelling so frequently . Professor Le Chi Ren said is so well : In EMBA - student among us are teacher, teachers with us are friend.
Return to Taipei from Puli and take a stop at Chu Nan on our way back. visit the old market, buy myself 3 books at local book shop and take some local delicacy. the night before were the Parent day in Putai high school. the B&B we book this time is Cheng Lung Winery, nice building, during the breakfast, met a parent from Singapore, exchange some interest idea. yes... why bother to perform gesture to new person?
Tiffany credit me 90 score after my first training speech at New Wide on Saturday morning - the 90 minutes workshop is the first I deliver to New Wide, I am so committee to and the outcome satisfied most of the key stakeholder - audience , business owner and program organizer. can be better next time if :
1. I check the venue first
2. deliver more story using simply language.
3. control time for performing all 3 exercises.
4. practice more jokes / story and metaphor relate to the subject.
Hanes hand me the contract, I am happy with the first corporate contract, a big and good beginning.
