DUI#61 : Father's tumor examine result day

The Things : father develop neck tumor ( 腮線腫瘤）text result comes out by moon and remove of tumor surgery take place on coming Sat.

The Why : at age of 94 , surgery won't be a primary thought is the tumor is cancer , luckily doctor told my wife it seems to be 良性 ， but the final result will come after surgery on Sat. I didn't sleep well yesterday and talk a lot with Meiling on bed last night , concern grows until early morning .

Take Away :
1. Everyone have to face his journey alone , others only accompany and show their caring .
2. Senior and elder coming back for help from the junior , Meiling become the pillar in the family who really take action to care .
3. Mother don't spend too much time on father's tumor development and lay all the burden to my wife - it only generate more bias to mother & son relationship .
F & E : don't think too much on things you can't really change . Look at the bright side and learn how to be alone .
DUI#62 : mother and son

The Things : Sounds home late last night and begin his summer vacation .

The Why : when his mother inform grandpa situation , he told his mom that he will stay at the hospital with her and be the care takers , the immediate response warm both our heart . And I hadn't see Sound for 3 weeks , it good to have a grown up back home.

Take Away :
1. Parent is not asking for action but warming .
2. Generation gap is not only age , value , believe ; it's the feelings you hardly can measure.
3. Open sharing among family member can be a lesson everyone need to learn .
4. Home is a safe place only when caring float naturally .

The day of inspiration
The Things : when receiving Steve's letter in regard to your " paradigm shift " video and taking up my morning swimming at Regent met up a few prior corporate forum trained executive at Regent and took the picture off the wall with the beautiful wordings -- it built a day of inspiration .

The Why :
1. Brotherhood and how it transform my life - so vivid for the past year .

The Things : meet michael & Bruno for their goals - " make the work: chaos - users guidebook " due to a short virtual intro by a good friend.

The Why : they wish to make their work works for Taiwan but don't have a clue how to make it happen , as a good friend introduced. I am happy to assist as much as I can.

Take Away :
1. No expectation for return favor make the conversation go smooth
2. No commercial measurement Drive more creativity juice .

The Things : inside hospital ward and conversation with father

The why : after a anesthetist evaluation. the risk for my father's surgery is higher than we willing to take , I made the decision cancel the schedule surgery and check out hospital ward , father looks relief and family take it as a decent health check .

Take Away:
1. In the ward , father hold me hand and I hold my son's hands . Father said he feel sorry for having me be the person supporting entire family for 3 decades.
2. Meiling ask me listen carefully for the words father mentioned to me , it will be the last words and should be carried out .
3. No surgery decision leave the tumor it's mature form . It's a risk still to my father but we won't take it an urgent issue now .
4. Hospital evaluation process leave the final decision to family - no professional can over rule family .

The Things : attending 27th golden melody award ceremony event ( 金曲獎頒獎典禮）sit for the entire event for 5 hours .

The Why : as a veteran to music industry, it's an annual old friend gathering , new minister of culture affairs sit 2 seats from me - I know she want to see me at the ceremony .

Take Away :
1. Once you develop the love of any art form , there's no such thing as retire or exit . You either in the management side or at the cross road be a better appreciator.
2. See new talent perform at the ceremony and witness how artist strive to deliver their passion in a difficult time getting me emotional.

The Why : to answer donors' question , we had a lunch session and I bring a few brains for answering 2 questions: how the org. Can sustain and how the talents we identify can be further developing ?

The Why : Ben interested in sharing his live & death experience overcome cancer and deliver his financial expertise with life transforming experience to mass audience , he want to know how NTU can accept and welcome his intention .

The things : take the chance of trial at AMBA Sungsong hotel and wood roast BBQ restaurant Que , I bring along Sound with me.

The Why : Sound is on his summer vacation and I am invite to join the test group for Hubert's soon be open hotel and restaurant at 松山，I bring Sound for a test meal and overnight at the new hotel together.

Take Away :
1. Experience the pre open of new hotel and be able to provide feedback as a consultant / guest .
2. Spend decent time with Sound and we eat / talk , play cards in the room together . It grows intimacy .
3. Out of home in downtown , I spared time to read the book Mrs Cheng ( Hung foundation ) gave me yesterday , a better picture about the family legacy now .y

The Things : lunch with Sony Taiwan Chairman Otsuki-san

The Why: via a Facebook connection , we reconnect after So-net days , he return to Taiwan and take up Chairmanship last year , we hadn't see each other for decade and make the lunch appointment today .

Take Away :
1. From the eyes of previous colleague , I know I am a happy person than before .
2. From a Japanese executive viewpoint , I realized coach is a meaningful role in people's life .
3. Reconnect and share the Sony days , I see the fall and rise of a Giant brand .

DUI#72 the weather
The things : hot in the morning ; humid at noon and pouring shower rain in the early afternoon .

The Why : change of weather in a day invite you to think in different mode , you sometimes feel impatience , sometimes feel uncomfortable , something you just can't calm down , you end up doing less things than you plans - weather become an adjustment tool move you up and down in a day.

Take Away :
1. Reading philosophic book at changing weather is like drawing a mind map .
2. Sitting at floor or coach , you can't find a posture support you to be stable for an hour .

The Things : it's a father and son routine , each year , we will identify a city in Taiwan , a hotel in that particular city we interested and stayed over night then explore the city together .

The Why : Since primary school , sound living in dormitory , it's hard for me to connect with him , so when he entering high school , we will find time in summer to spend days together - just Sound and me and this year , his freshmen Year in university, we choose Kaohsiung and stays at a new bouquet hotel : STARHAUS . Taking the HSR down to 左營 、 we visit 駁二藝術特區；台鋁生活廣場 and play our Poker routine in the hotel .

Take away :
1. Witness the new aspect of KS , especially on his creatively development.
2. Walking and talking to sound , I realized that I miss the promise of " going to every James Bones movie together " and he really cares .
3. Offers my child a pressure free moment and see a growing body is a true happiness .

DUI#74 : Bob Weir : The Long Strange Trip
The Things : watching this rock documentary film on Netflix- understand the other important icon at hippie days .

The Why : sign up Netflix manning for their house productions , especially documentary , Bob is the youngest joint Grateful Dead and touring since 17 years old , his story reflect the age of Beat Generation & Hippie : Acid Test Days .

Take Away :
1. Bob is so honest before the camera , as he respect to his music.
2. Unsocial doesn't means anti social , as long as you do not hurt anyone else , you choose how you see and live the world .
3. Touring / living / working together is your foster family , any lost of good band member is a lost of family .

DUI#75: Sound make up his mind

The Things : returning Taipei after 2 nights Kaohsiung city tour , Sound decide to find him a summer part time job as a Chinese restaurant waiter .

The Why : freshmen year University summer vacation, sound's mother urge him to find a summer part time job , to support his tuition next year and learn the basic social living outside , from reluctant to proactive , sound will begin his part time from tomorrow .

Take Away :
1. 12 hours per day and take one day off per week for a 19 years old wasn't easy , his determination blow my mind .
2. I recall my freshman year , I also work part time in factory and living in the labor's dormitory for 2 months in Taichung. It connect me and sound .
3. His mother murmuring everyday and a boy like sound could take it and change his mindset - it's a mutual manner I can learn from .

DUI#76: about forming a family

The Things : a coachee talk about his goal in bhguilding his family and we had a dialogue

The Why : married and have a family can be separate issue , divorce and not living a happy marriage can be separate issue also .

Take away :
1. Healthier life and longevity toady give people new aspect on marriage : you live 3 times married cycles life than the married couple 40 years ago . Much to learn and to understand then any marriage book taught .
2. Just want a companion , having off springs or build a full functions family experience varies our goal in pursuing family life .

DUI#77 brief visit to father's old house at 石碇

The Things : before typhoon NEPARTAK hit the island , Meiling and I decided to check the old house no one live now .

The Why : father's no at home is a normal scene to me , when he retired at 50 , he live in suburbs and rarely stayed with us , 石碇 is his first hideaway which I recalled , as a gift , father give it to my sister 10 years ago and Meiling and I didn't visit the stone house since .

Take Away :
1. Hide inside the mountain of 石碇， father live a Herman's life , writing Chines Poems and become a farmer , I never connect his life .
2. Saw that stone house , the tree is much taller than human , a flesh idea : even my father no longer in this world , the tree he plant mark his spirit with us. And I felt the tree connect us deeply .
3. Nobody walking in 深坑老街 under typhoon weather, we talk to a banquet chef and learn the story of 深坑 and why Tofu become a signature dish there . All walk of life do have there wisdom and story to tell as long as you show your wiliness to learn.

The things : typhoon keep me in the house and watching sad news one by one : Tai Rail explosion ; Dallas police kill the black and sniper ambush police at the peace demonstration .

The Why : weather is the vibrator to mood ; and news is the catalyst further impact my mind , I am thinking : what is the word / symptom that have the power over us that even it doens't happen yet ? When saw the sad news about train explosion and the FB live streaming on the cop kill the black and following CNN broadcasting the peace demonstration turn to a tragedy .

Take Away :
1. If technology aide is not so comprehensive and convenience , what's the outcome will be in term of these 2 events .
2. In the world of turbulence , reaching out is not a smart move , but how to stand as a human ?
3. Personal media can turn the world upside down , you are media , be more prudent in every move .

The Things : weekend movie routine with wife , today we pick an independent film " Umrika " (歡迎來美國）- Sun Dance Festival selection movie .

The Why : going to art film or non - English speaking movie is a routine I did with Meiling for many years , today , we went for an India story : Umrika ( America )

Take Away :
1. Good story and director make this little piece a touching and inspiring journey .
2. We hiding things for the sake of good intention and may end up with unexpected direction .
3. Everyone have his American Dream and we pursue until the dream come true .
4. Movie is like book flavor with visual & sound to me , it enrich my life and give me more thought about my life .

DUI#80 : a temple up on nowhere land call " 天佛禪寺"

The Things : after Meilijg and I pay a short visit to 坪林， on our way back to Taipei , we drove the wrong direction and find the direction sign to this temple which we never heard before , we follow the road sign and up to nowhere in the mountain of 坪林， a very decent and detail Zen monastery appear in front of us , no visitor and we were surprise to find a good hideaway no matter you are a Buddhism or not .

The Why : I found out this zen monastery was established 10 more years ago , according to temple volunteer , the master monk who can tell your 3 life's ( pre - now and post ) and we see many offering craft at the throne mark high price for follower to buy ( the term is 結緣）with a donation camouflage .
Take Away :
1. I believe our soul can inherent from previous iLife and pass on next life , but I don't believe those who can tell our pre / post life hold the rights to share it .
2. The detail stone and wooden sculptures are art piece to me , such a modern Buddha museum locate at a nowhere land is a hidden treasure.

The Things : YPO sea dragon cheaper event ask me to conduct stir fly forum on July 22 at Penang , I am rewriting a Mandarin base journey for the workshop .

The Why : I have been occupied in mind how to polish it to Asian or Mandarin Speaking YPOer , and lead the workshop to be more theatrical / inner search & explorative to our members , this is the 3rd time for conduct hero's journey .

Take Away :

The Things : preparing Sea Dragon Chapter " Hero's Journey Workshop " , lock myself in the student days K 書中心。

The Why : need a close environment to concentrate on developing workbook and exercises , I decided to check in 南陽街 K書中心， book a private cubicle and lock for 8 hours . It's a 大學重考 experience come back again .

Take Away :
1. Create an environment where you can focus really help me get rid of office / cafe disruption .

The Why : having not visit Carrefour for years , asked to be the porter late afternoon and to experience the evolution of megastore development , particular in the Outlet hub and change of the food arcade - retiring low cost restaurant and replace with middle to high end local or international chains.

Take Away :
1. Some shop in shop operations is very limited , utilization of the space is so cost effective .
2. The variety of grocery category offers much to much for choice - competition is clear to see.
3. Market is mild to low : megastore suppose to be packed always . But the Shindian branch we visit is not in good traffic .
4. Accompanied wife to shop but not shopping is different : woman's strolling pace and focus differ from man.

The Things : Friend from Singapore , ask me introduce classical music / performance promoter for 3 European Choirs he manages and his family foundation sponsors .

The Why : choir or 合唱團 is an almost forgotten musical nature in Taiwan , less and less people sing in the choirs , lack of high quality choirs touring to Taipei ask difficult to attract audience , but my friend spend personal and family resource try to bring the choir music Renaissance to Asia and put Taiwan on his touring map. The Things : mountaineering with wife early in the morning

The Why : Meiling will perform 運動心電圖 next Wed. She afraid her physical condition won't support the 10 minutes treadmill , I ask her to join me morning hiking daily . And we kick off on Sat morning and follow with my other routine : local breakfast at one 豆漿店。

Take away :
1. Morning hiking you met with early people , people greet with smile and hello at the trails all the way , you receive positive energy no only from the exercise but the people you meet .
2. You spend quality time with your spouse and you can easily deal with all kind of subject - it's random and stress free - it increase intimacy between couples .

The Things : after 2 weeks of part time job , sound had his day off on y and ask for a short trip , I move my coaching session and we go to 擎天崗 together .

The Why : Sound choose his summer part time working in goose noodle shop , a very local restaurant where he was treated as an low end entrant and after crying the first night , he become strong and wish to fulfill a 30 days commitment , . Meiling and I wish to spend more time with him and we decide the picture scene of yang ming mountain .

Take Away :
1. Get my boy to talk about his learning at a swear restaurant and fit in with people from varies background . I learn how he learned.
2. A causal day with Sound and his mother , not answering phone and not check email - nothing really urgent .
3. 擎天崗 and 竹子湖 are the garden for Taipei citizen , when see the cows chewing the weed without put on cattle-shed , I felt free as well.

DUI#93 Penang Retreat Day
The thing : Done my hero's journey
Part 1 , I am taking the morning trip with Sea Dragon Chapter for a " George Town " treasure hunt .

The Why : only in YPO experience is always the highlight for every event chair , customization ; human touch and tailor make make every unique journey an exclusive experience , this time , day chair manager to find an old wall in the UNESCO heritage site and contract an fresco artist paint the wall for every participant in the hero's journey, according to the artist , if weather and house condition unchanged , the wall painting can last for 5 years , it's hard to believe an even will physically leave the ink for such a long time .
Take Away :
1. It always start with " this is impossible " and turn to a reality, determination make it happen .
2. Blending private something inside UNESCO site and hind it so well even making other tourist take it as a new scenery spot is so amazing .
3. To serve is a high form of relationship, can be friends , can be siblings and can be anything .
4. Hero's Journey is still a ripple talk on the way - I am happy .

DUI#94 Coaching on the go
The Things : take early flight back and have to check out hotel by 5:30 pm , peers in the same car and we take chance to go deeper one on one .

The Why : once you connect with someone through the forum training , bounding build and you will initiative a deeper hello wherever the chance arrival , inside the taxi for the 30 minutes ride to Airport , I happily offers my coaching experience for someone in the dark , as we exchange idea and mind , I can sense the support well received .
Take Away:
1. Become the person someone willing to talk to let me feeling good .
2. Offer my experience & expertise to friends in need double my good feeling . I see the sunrise in the dark people's face .
3. Sharing is the key process in solving , offer empathy listening , you done most of the part .
4. The 30 minutes engage strength friendship for years , just like the song " you are always on my mind "

DUI#95 Lier & Judge
The Things : an unexpected call from somebody who works in my coachee's firm , it tell me how blinds my coachee is and how it feels so sad about the boss it works for 10 plus years . I am listening without asking it to tell me more , but I told it : don't tell me anything , only share your own feeling , as I am a coach , I was asked to offer experience and to support coachee on making right decision but never the judge to tell my coachee what's wrong and who disclosed it to me - Information feed in the first place influence you no matter you are in the scene or not . If you honest share your feeling and your view in seeing the picture , the rest will be coachee call . Neither did you or I .

The Why : participant in things you are not there only complicate the situation ; be treated as an influencer to someone , always facing the leverage party trying to test you . Been too long to a coachee , you capture the behavior pattern and can only be the companion to your coachee , something you see the ship is falling , you stand still until coachee say : " I SEE THE HOLE "

Take Away:
1. Preventing efforts done before someone trying to influence me - no matter is true or false , it give you a clear thoughts .
2. Learning your role but not your responsibility is critical , mixing people and matter drive you crazy .
3. Don't expect an everlasting relationship - with anyone include your family and yourself .

DUI#96 Michelin or MacDonald ?
The Things : appointment with my professor 李吉仁 for bento lunch at his study room and design curriculum for 光寶集團。

The Why: partner with Prof. Lee for 3 years now and I develop my forum / coaching skill to an exclusive " coaching base leadership " program for large classroom manager / executives , my way of workshop wins many positive feedback and prof . Lee ask me to develop more together with him for coming tier one Corp in Taiwan. Liteon is next project and I will design " values alignment & consensus workshop " & " coaching base leadership " to them, today - we go over the structure of the 11 days program at NTU . After the session , JR Lee ask : what's your future goal ? My instance response is " to build an one and only wellness center in Asia - retreat hideaway for your body and soul " and we share the same mindset : not go for the scale but the mastery of your passions and I told prof. Lee 「米其林三星」is my goal rather than 「 麥當勞連鎖」。

Take Away :
1. JR told me many of his EMBA student is coach themselves but he consider me at partner at the first place because I am in the YPO loop - a real CEO / Chairman club with solid coaching experience --
2. My scaling class up to 40 persons can delivery and gaining positive responses from non YPO executive - a prof of spin off opportunity .
3. Do good is taught than grow big - mastering and focusing will transform good to better .
4. We talk about Tony Robbins and why not build ourselves an Asian version ? And answers is clear : not pursuing fame and fortune .

DUI#97: Charity is not a Gala
The Things : attending the Taisin Bank Foundation " charity cloud kick out 7th ceremony "

The Why : Talents Fly donate my time to moderate "social welfare NGO summit " in May and invite to seat at kick out / off ceremony . All the gala party try to catch the eyes of media and the routine is never a creative event . To kill time at a should be " appreciation time " is kind of waste . As I am wandering at fm ceremony , may ideas flip up and down : how to do good and do right ? What's the break thorough in social change ? How philanthropy can be a fun initiative and activity ? Why people come for this event and killing precious time together ?

Take Away :
1. Inward gratitude and outward communication : pass it forward should be well examined .
2. Business & Charity are flip side : giving back can't be interpreted as taking too much.
3. Create meaning in every minutes : even you are idol and constrain by body - don't let your mind silent .
4. Guest speaker : should know his role and not to hijack the whole event .
5. Sneaking stranger : as a public event , you can't filter outside strangers - and you see interesting occurs surrendering you.

DUI#98 : intentionally miss to take a coachee's call
The Things : I've involved in dealing with a difficult scenario in one of my client's responsibility . Today while traveling to Tokyo - I miss his call and decide not to call back .

The Why : as a third party , the end picture is clear to me, but my client reluctant to take an proactive action but procrastinate the process and turn important issue to emergency crisis , as the situation turn to taught , a coach is hard to represent him , he have to face and solve it at all cost . I understand why the call comes and I didn't pick up the phone , I am using the " absence window " as a coaching lesson . See how my client can handle it and treat it as a case to explore on our next session . " change can simply come from doing things you don't want to .. "

Take Away :
1. React - response - reply . It takes 2 to tango , now you are asking to perform solo , can't fool the audience .
2. Issue owner ultimately should be the issue solver - you either claim the credit or take the blame .
3. When time and timing be the judge and you have no way to escape - you will take action .

DUI#99: Tokyo Coachee identity
The Things : at the meal , we both confirm the coaching relationship . A Japan YPO ( turn YPO Gold now ) engage me as his life coach .

The Why : the chemistry developed from GLC LA and extend to multi forum retreat to Taiwan one and half years ago , I am not sure his intuition can turn to a solid coaching relationship until we meet , both of us were so excited about the journey about to take on - as my first non Chinese coachee and a YPOer from Japan , it means a lot to me and I can't help but share my excitement to Meiling right away .

Take Away :
1. I see the basic human need - non relate to race or religion , it's finding someone trust to share and to have someone walk together .
2. It's an ultimate bless to perform what I love and extend to a blue ocean I never image before .
3. Humble & Appreciation , feeling I have higher purpose in the world and I am answering to the calling now.

DUI#100 : kurizawa Summer jazz festival

The Things : to attend the 5th Kurizawa jazz festival today and memories my passing good friend Itoh-San .

The Why : when seeing the late wife of Itoh 88 - Taeko early this year , I promise her I will come back to support her on the 5th jazz festival . Itoh organize and start it 5 years ago , he passed away one and half year . Taeko-San keep his spirit alive and continue organized this jazz event and invite jazz artists who either respect Itoh or discover / develop and produce by him . It's a trip I realized my promise and reconnect old friend in Sony Music Japan , met artists who I have co-work before .

Take Away :
1. I see the love and commitment a wife to her husband . By doing what Itoh love , Teako-San relive the life she spend with her husband .
2. A trip to bring good friends from Taiwan with me , an no agenda ; no expectation trip , everyone spend great time together - music / food / drink and friendship .
3. Reconnect with artist brings me expertise when in entertainment sector - I am so easy to love and be loved by talents - it's an genuine , no cover love of music and passion to music .
4. Jazz - the free form dialogue among musical instrument get me thinking how to in tune or fine tune relationship among peoples .
